Sam Smith: In The Lonely Hour Album Review

Sam Smith. He is probably the UK's biggest rising artist of the moment! And, he is storming into the US!

His album In The Lonely Hour debuted at Number 1in the UK and Number 2 in the US. VERY impressive.

I'm pretty sure that everyone knows him because of his massive hit "Stay With Me".

When I first heard of Sam Smith, I was watching Saturday Night Live. I wasn't really paying attention because honestly SNL has gone downhill and isn't funny. But, I heard a beautiful soulful voice in my ears and immediately glued my eyes to my TV screen.

I immediately went to Youtube to listen to "Stay With Me" and realized that he was the amazing voice behind Disclosure's huge hit, "Latch".

After hearing his amazing singles "Money on My Mind" and "Stay With Me", I couldn't wait until his album released in the US on June 17, 2014.

Since this is a review and I have to be honest, the album was kind of boring!

I feel that the singles were truly the best songs on the album and I believe that is why the record labels chose them as his singles. I enjoyed the songs "I'm Not The Only One (which he just announced as hit next single, I have a pretty good ear *flips hair*) " and "Not In That Way". The album was basically about heartbreak and on some of the songs it sounded like he was just whining about love. It's not an album that I would have on repeat.

Since this is his debut album, I felt that it should have been delivered stronger; I feel that it must have been rushed.

Regardless of my "negative" review, his voice is amazing and has so much soul and his vocals are stellar so I know that he has a very long career ahead of him! His live performances give me LIFEEE! He's also very adorable and fashionable which are extra bonus points.

Rating: 6/10

  3. Interesting review! I haven't bought the album because I had a feeling, although he is a brilliant singer, that he wouldn't be very versatile. I guess its just our opinions though haha x
